Whether you’re in your 20s or your 50s – or any age in between and beyond – annual well woman visits give your Austin obgyn a chance to learn about your lifestyle and your needs so she can provide age-appropriate care that is tailored just for you.

Whether you want to discuss contraception options, prepare for pregnancy, screen for common medical concerns or manage the symptoms of menopause, our team of female obgyns has answers and options for you at annual wellness exams.

Age-appropriate care at annual wellness exams in Austin

In addition to supporting pregnancy at any age – including high-risk pregnancies in older women – our Austin obgyn team’s annual wellness exams provide family planning and gynecologic services for women at every stage of life.

In your 20s, it’s time to think about family planning, safe sex and birth control. Your Austin obgyn can help with all of these at your annual exam, and will also perform an annual gynecologic and breast exam, as well as a pap smear to check for signs of cervical cancer. Your annual visit is also a good time to talk about any concerns you may have about your menstrual cycle, weight or other health matters.

In your 30s. At your annual wellness exams in Austin, your obgyn can evaluate any changes in your menstrual cycle, perform a pap test for cervical cancer and human papillomavirus (HPV), check your breast health and provide preconception counseling if you’re thinking about having a baby – or birth control if you aren’t.

In your 40s.  At your annual visit, your Austin obgyn will perform a pap smear, lipid and diabetes screening, and its also time to start receiving annual mammograms to check for breast cancer. In addition, your obgyn can evaluate your hormone levels and provide relief for the symptoms of perimenopause, such as hot flashes, weight gain and insomnia if present.

In your 50s and beyond, it’s time to really focus on health and wellness. By their mid-50s, most women have fully entered menopause. At annual wellness exams in Austin, your obgyn can help with ongoing symptoms such as vaginal dryness and hot flashes. She can also order bone-density scans to watch for signs of osteoporosis, and help you prevent bone loss with calcium supplementation and weight-bearing exercise. It’s also important to keep up with annual pap smears and physical exams in your 50s, as the risk of gynecologic cancers increases with age.

Wildflower OB/GYN follows the CDC masking guidance for COVID prevention, which is based on community transmission by county. It has been our position that out of an abundance of caution, we would not alter masking requirements in our office until the community transmission has sustained a two-week trend. Based on the current community transmission levels, Travis County has sustained a two-week trend at “substantial transmission” down from “high transmission”.

We are no longer requiring universal masking for patients, staff, or physicians. Masking is now optional. We are still limiting guests to the maximum of 2 guests per patient.

If you have fever, cough, shortness of breath, or any symptoms of Flu or Covid-19, please call to reschedule your appointment, and contact your primary care provider. If you, or your guests, come to the office with any of these symptoms, you will be required to leave the office immediately.

Thank you for your continued cooperation as we remain committed to keeping our patients, providers and staff protected.
